Description | The Dematin (Phospho Ser403) polyclonal antibody targets a protein that serves as an actin-binding and bundling protein. It plays a vital structural role in erythrocytes by stabilizing and connecting the spectrin/actin cytoskeleton to the erythrocyte membrane in a phosphorylation-dependent manner. The protein consists of a core domain in the N-terminus and a headpiece domain in the C-terminus, which specifically binds to F-actin. In erythrocyte purification, the protein forms a trimer composed of two 48 kDa polypeptides and one 52 kDa polypeptide. The different subunits arise from alternative splicing in the 3' coding region, where the headpiece domain is located. Disruptions in this gene have been associated with Marie Unna hereditary hypotrichosis, an autosomal dominant condition characterized by hair loss. Additionally, loss of heterozygosity of this gene is believed to contribute to the progression of prostate cancer. Alternative splicing of this gene leads to the generation of multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms of the protein. |
