Description | African swine fever virus (ASFV), the only member of the family Asfarviridae that belongs to the group of nucleocytoplasmic large DNA viruses, has a complex structure with multiple membrane and protein layers. The ASFV phosphoprotein p30, one of the early viral proteins, is encoded by the CP204L gene with a relative molecular weight of 30 kDa. It is one of the most antigenic structural proteins correlated with ASFV entry. The protein is located in the inner membrane of the viral envelope. Generally, expression of p30 is observed from about 2 to 4 h post-infection, and then continues to the infection cycle. Hence, expression of p30 indicates that the virus has entered and uncoated, and early virus gene expression has started. P30 protein is immunogenic and stimulates the highest level of viral antibody response during ASFV infection. |
